Holiday Hustle: A Modern Misnomer

Holiday Hustle: A Modern Misnomer

Ah, the holidays are here, let’s cheer,
Not for peace, but for what’s on sale this year.
Deck the halls with maxed-out credit,
A season of joy? More like, “You’ll regret it.”

The papers scream, “HOLIDAY DEALS!”
Not rest or love, just consumer appeals.
“Escape to bliss! Buy your dream!”
But the dream's a debt-fueled marketing scheme.

“Take a break,” they smugly say,
As you fight for gadgets on display.
A vacation means a suitcase stuffed,
A selfie spree where the soul’s left snuffed.

You’re off to a beach, or maybe a hill,
Hoping that spending will cure your chill.
The same old spots, the same long queues,
Frenzied crowds with too much to lose.

Shopping malls turned temples of glee,
Worshiping brands, oh, the irony!
Gifts wrapped in ribbons, so shiny and neat,
Happiness exchanged for a receipt.

And when the calendar flips anew,
The resolutions? Already askew.
“Spend less!” you write with trembling hand,
As bills and ads continue to expand.

But take a pause, just for a while,
Withdraw from this circle of deception
Holidays once meant a sacred rest,
A chance to reflect, to feel truly blessed.

So, here’s my wish for the holiday craze:
May we see through the glittering haze.
A break from the noise, the rush, the spree,
To find the joy in simply being free.
