The Bird & the Herd - A New Year's Flight

On this dawn of a year, fresh and untried,

The bird takes wing, its heart open wide.

The sky stretches vast, a promise anew,

A realm of dreams and horizons to pursue.

Below, the herd gathers, warm and near,

Sharing their hopes for a fruitful year.

They bask in the glow of unity’s grace,

Yet glance at the bird in its endless space.

“Such loneliness,” they murmur, “to walk alone,

To face the unknown, with no hearth, no stone.

The past may be heavy, but here we stay,

Safe in the comfort of yesterday.”

“Such freedom,” the bird whispers, “to chart the skies,

To leave behind the echoes of old goodbyes.

For though the wind may carry me far,

Every leap births a guiding star.”

The New Year whispers, a paradox revealed,

Both freedom and bonds can be strength or shield.

Each path is a choice, each step a stride,

Into futures unknown, where dreams abide.

So whether you take to the sky or the ground,

Let courage and grace in your heart be found.

For every year and every day is a gift, untamed,

A chance to rise, unbound, unclaimed.

Fly like the bird, but cherish the herd,

For life is a song of both deed and word.

May this year be a journey of balance and cheer—

A dance of belonging and flight through the year.
